Nintendo Direct (11/12/15) – Info & Opinion

Last week Nintendo held it’s first Nintendo Direct in almost 6 months.  I tried to make predictions and expectations, some of them came true but the majority didn’t.  Speculating is half of the fun of these things though!  Anyways here is a re-cap of everything that was announced, new updates, new titles, new release dates, etc.  Plus some opinion thrown in there too!

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD w/Wolf Link amiibo – There were rumors already going around about the existence of a Twilight Princess HD remake. A lot of us thought it was going to be digital only, as a collector I’m glad to see it’s getting a physical release. I’m sure the bundled in amiibo is to help justify pushing the price up to $59.99 but it looks pretty cool so I’m not complaining!

Zelda Wii U Clip – Nothing much shown here, just re-confirmation that the next Zelda is still planned for the Wii U in 2016, maybe people will stop speculating that it’s going to be NX only now.

Tri Force Heroes Update – A new update releaseing on December 2nd was announced. This update will add the “Den of Trials” which is a new area with 30+ stages.   You and your team must defeat every enemy in the stage to advance, there will be checkpoints placed through the stages though.  Read the rest of this entry

Nintendo Direct Predictions – November 2015

newbanner2

Within the next 24 hours Nintendo will release it’s first Nintendo Direct since E3 and the first one since Satoru Iwata passed away.  This is the longest gap between Nintendo Directs since they started.  I figured this was a good time to try and speculate on what is going to be discussed and announced.

New Super Smash Bros DLC/Character – The ballots recently closed for voting on a new character for Super Smash Bros on Wii U & 3DS, so I’m guessing Nintendo will be announcing the results.  My guess is that Shovel Knight will be the new announced character, Yacht Club Games campaigned for it, their is an amiibo coming out soon and Nintendo “accidentally” listed Smash Bros support for the Shovel Knight amiibo.  Based on other rumors and opinions if Shovel Knight isn’t the winner then I’m guessing it’s King K. Rool or a character from previous Smash Bros games.

Other DLC – Nintendo would’ve loved to have had Star Fox Zero out for the holidays but it got pushed back, they can’t rush out a new retail game to fill-in for Star Fox but maybe they could surprise us with new Mario Kart DLC.  Maybe even Mario Kart DLC with a Star Fox character (or two), a Star Fox theme course, a Landmaster Kart and Arwing Kart (or Glider).  This sounds too cool and makes too much sense, as it would help hype me up for a new Star Fox just like those F-Zero courses have me itching for a new F-Zero. My Wii U Summer Goals

header

My collection of games keeps growing and so does my backlog. There are plenty of games I want to 100%, finish the main campaign, or even play at all that I’ve never taken the time to do. I’ve decided this summer I’m going to focus on completing a lot of the games I have on the Wii U and I’m going to set specific goals towards completing them. I guess this is similar to an achievement/trophy system but I’m making these goals primarily progress and collectible-based. As I attempt to complete these games and reach these goals I’ll stream my progress on twitch through my channel twitch.tv/thegamerpad I’ll also keep this post updated here.

Anyone else tired of not finishing their games and building up a backlog? If so and you’re interested in doing the same, please feel free to set your own goals for games you want to play and share your information. I’ll later be adding goals for Virtual Console/Retro games, Wii Games, Playstation 3 games and specific franchises as well. Hope you enjoy!!

Super Smash Bros for Wii U – I want to 100% this game, and that’s probably unrealistic because I don’t know if I can actually complete all of the challenges (such as beating it on Intensity 7.5 with all characters) but I’ll try to do it all. Smaller goals I’m shooting for now are completing Classic & All-Star with all of the characters, unlocking R.O.B. and completing all of the events.

  • Complete All-Star Mode with all Characters

  • Complete All of the Co-Op EventsCleared 7/12
  • Collect Over 700 Trophies

Super Mario 3D World – I completed the main game’s 8 worlds but I’d still like to complete all of the levels from the secret worlds, also want to 100% all the collectibles. At the time of starting these goals I have 218 Stars and 55 Stamps.

  • Complete World StarCleared 6/27
  • Complete World MushroomCleared 6/27
  • Complete World Flower Cleared 6/28
  • Complete World CrownCleared 7/4
  • Collect all 380 of the Green StarsCleared 7/4
  • Collect all 85 of the Stamps (Currently at 80)

Amiibo: Expectations, Disappointments & Ideas

bannerNintendo first introduced the Amiibo’s at E3 in June 2014, and just recently released them (in the United States) in November 2014 alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.  Until shortly before the release, it wasn’t exactly clear what the purpose of the Amiibos were, and how they would interact with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and other games. Even after their release, I still don’t have a full understanding of their functionality and their purpose.  Nintendo has yet to explain how they’re going to work with already released software like Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker and upcoming releases like Kirby and The Rainbow Curse, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Wooly WorldKirby and The Rainbow Curse is due out February 13, 2015, almost 3 months from the release of the first wave of Amiibos, which includes a Kirby Amiibo.  It seems odd that Nintendo would sell the Kirby Amiibo shortly before the release of a Kirby game that supports Amiibos, without explaining how they’ll be used.  I’m actually somewhat skeptical if Nintendo knows what they plan they do to them.  If Nintendo handles Amiibo correctly, they could actually make up for any lackluster sales of hardware and software related to the Wii U, so it is important for them to get this correct.

I don’t have any problems with the physical quality of the Amiibo’s but without better functionality, I think the price of them is currently too high.  I know that the quality of the Amiibo protoypes showcased at E3 are better than the actual manufactured releases, but they do feel very solid (Marth’s sword is a little flimsy).  The figures now include props/stands such as Link’s yellow pole and WiI Fit Trainer’s clear boot, these make the figures a little less appealing but it doesn’t ruin them.  I am curious to know why they chose yellow for Link’s stand instead of a clear color.  Nintendo franchises are my favorites and I already have some non-Amiibo Nintendo figures, so I am someone that want’s to like Amiibos.  But I don’t want to spend $13 on all 41+ characters from Smash Bros just because I’m a collector and fan of Nintendo, I want to get more out of their functionality.
