The Nintendo Switch has now Launched, so now the Party begins and we get to spend the weekend enjoying the latest console and handheld at the same time!! Zelda is bound to steal the spotlight, but there are other launch games!!! These will also be played and show off the unique features of the Nintendo Switch. Feel free to participate in the chat, and watch on twitch.tv/theGamerPad or on the front page at theGamerPad.com
This of course is the biggest title and most anticipated on the Switch. Check back here for progression updates in the campaign and attached videos of our playthrough so far.
First Update: Played for a little over an hour and just obtained the Bombs. This game feels so polished and pacing seems perfect. Still very early but I can tell the greatness in this title. Wow this game is going to be amazing.
Second Update: There is so much to do in this world, we spent so much time exploring and hunting, every single action feels so polished. We have just past the introduction and received the Paraglider. Before that we obtained the ability to stop time and also to freeze water. These mechanics combined with the previous ones will open up so many areas in the world and surely be a part of a lot of dungeon puzzles. Can’t wait for more.
This is the local multiplayer party game that should really bring out some of the unique features of the Switch. Will update with impressions and information about the different games as we play them. Unsure how well this game will be represented in a stream.
First Update: This doesn’t show well in a stream, at least without a webcam. The mini-games are very fun and I was very satisfied with the fun we had playing the games. There was 3 of us and all 3 agree Ping Pong is the best. It feels incredibly real.
A new Bomberman with a co-op campaign and the same classic multiplayer (plus online), this seems perfect, especially when paired with the ability to break off the joycons and play co-op while out of the house. Will update with multiplayer impressions and co-op progress. Videos coming.
First Update: This is traditional Bomberman at its best, and it’s everything a Bomberman fan would hope for. We played local multiplayer a little bit online and even some co-op campaign. This will be played a lot.
Second Update: We completed the first world in Co-Op. The game is actually harder than I expected. The boss fight was my favorite part so far. Online multiplayer was lagging heavily today, wasn’t at all on Friday.
SnipperClips is another interesting launch title that should show off the Switch’s local multiplayer and co-op play. Expect impressions and video updates.
First Update: We cleared the first world. This is a very unique game excellent co-op and great way to showcase the local multiplayer and joycons controls.
Shovel Knight Treasure Trove includes the brand new Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment. Love the 8Bit style and I was a fan of the original Shovel Knight. This will get some playtime too. Expect updates about progress.
First Update: Didn’t really play much. Expect more tomorrow.
Second Update: I beat the first level. The sprites are beautifully colored, the game is definitely for fans of 8bit retro games such as Mega Man. Want to play more
How is it Related to the Nintendo Switch? This summer Splatoon 2 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch!! Of course it makes sense to go back and play the original to get a taste of what we’re gonna see on the Switch!
I still hadn’t completed the single player campaign from the original Splatoon, so I went back and finished off the final 2 levels and the boss fight!!
How is it Related to the Nintendo Switch? Super Mario Galaxy 2 is considered the last “real” Super Mario game in a 360degree world. A lot of people consider Wii U’s Super Mario 3D World to be a different series. With Nintendo’s announcement of Super Mario Odyssey coming Holiday 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, I thought it would be fun to go back and play some Super Mario Galaxy 2. A reminder of how great the Super Mario games really are.
I actually played this through the Virtual Console on the Wii U, not with my physical Wii copy. I hadn’t completed the main game before this play through, and I was a bit rusty remembering the controls or being quick in maneuvering, but it all eventually came back. I cleared the last world of the main game. This is my favorite game from the Wii, I hope Mario Odyssey is just as good!
How is it Related to the Nintendo Switch? On April 28th Nintendo is releasing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. It will include all of the tracks and characters from Mario Kart 8 + The DLC Characters and Tracks + An Improved Battle Mode with New Battle Courses.
Just played a couple of circuits on 100cc. I’m not quite the pro at Mario Kart 8 like I am at ones from the past. Luckily there’s room to grow when I play on the Switch.
