This of course is the biggest title and most anticipated on the Switch.  Check back here for progression updates in the campaign and attached videos of our playthrough so far.

First Update: Played for a little over an hour and just obtained the Bombs.  This game feels so polished and pacing seems perfect.  Still very early but I can tell the greatness in this title. Wow this game is going to be amazing.

Second Update: There is so much to do in this world, we spent so much time exploring and hunting, every single action feels so polished.  We have just past the introduction and received the Paraglider.  Before that we obtained the ability to stop time and also to freeze water.  These mechanics combined with the previous ones will open up so many areas in the world and surely be a part of a lot of dungeon puzzles.    Can’t wait for more.

12switchminibanner.jpgThis is the local multiplayer party game that should really bring out some of the unique features of the Switch.  Will update with impressions and information about the different games as we play them.  Unsure how well this game will be represented in a stream.

First Update: This doesn’t show well in a stream, at least without a webcam.  The mini-games are very fun and I was very satisfied with the fun we had playing the games.  There was 3 of us and all 3 agree Ping Pong is the best.  It feels incredibly real.

bombermanminibanner.jpgA new Bomberman with a co-op campaign and the same classic multiplayer (plus online), this seems perfect, especially when paired with the ability to break off the joycons and play co-op while out of the house.  Will update with multiplayer impressions and co-op progress.  Videos coming.

First Update: This is traditional Bomberman at its best, and it’s everything a Bomberman fan would hope for.   We played local multiplayer a little bit online and even some co-op campaign.   This will be played a lot.

Second Update: We completed the first world in Co-Op.  The game is actually harder than I expected.  The boss fight was my favorite part so far.  Online multiplayer was lagging heavily today, wasn’t at all on Friday.

snipperclipsminibanner.jpgSnipperClips is another interesting launch title that should show off the Switch’s local multiplayer and co-op play.   Expect impressions and video updates.

First Update:  We cleared the first world.  This is a very unique game excellent co-op and great way to showcase the local multiplayer and joycons controls.

shovelknightminibanner.jpgShovel Knight Treasure Trove includes the brand new Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment.  Love the 8Bit style and I was a fan of the original Shovel Knight.  This will get some playtime too.  Expect updates about progress.

First Update: Didn’t really play much.   Expect more tomorrow.

Second Update: I beat the first level. The sprites are beautifully colored, the game is definitely for fans of 8bit retro games such as Mega Man.   Want to play more

Genesis Retro Mix Vol.1

mix1.jpg

The First SEGA Genesis Mix was a 5 Game series with a bit of a random selection: X-Men 2: Clone Wars, Garfield: Caught in The Act, Super Street Fighter II, Rock ‘N’ Roll Racing and Greendog

X-Men 2 Clone Wars (Action) – I don’t remember ever playing this game but the first level in particular looks very familiar.  I have seen this on people’s Top 10 or Top 25 lists for SEGA Genesis games, and after playing it, that doesn’t surprise me.  The controls were very responsive and there was some cool level design and enemy patterns.  I was pretty impressed with the game even if I got frustrated and got a Game Over.  I made it up to Level 3-4 and died at the boss fight against Exodus.

Garfield: Caught in The Act (Platformer) – This game looks fun, and by watching the demo it seems like there are some cool levels to play, but this game is HARD.  And it wasn’t even a fun/challenging type of hard, it was very CHEAP.  I played this with my wife and we made it up to the boss of the first level, but couldn’t figure out if we were actually damaging it or not.  It was very frustrating and seemed to be very unforgiving and cheap.  I was pretty frustrated with it.   I’m going to look into seeing if I was doing something wrong, or if this game is actually that cheap.

Super Street Fighter II (Fighter) –  I use to love the Street Fighter II series, but Read the rest of this entry

SNES Retro Mix Vol. 1

mix2.jpg

The first mix was a 5 game series: Dino City, Stunt Race FX, The Rocketeer, Super Mario RPG and Super Adventure Island II.

Dino City (Platformer)– This is a somewhat forgotten platformer, and it’s actually a pretty good one too.  It has a good challenge to it, as I got wrecked by the boss to the 2nd Stage.   That’s as far as I played, but I did walk away with a Password: 4K1XTƎK3HN4M

Stunt Race FX (Racing) – This is one of the few SNES games that uses the Super FX Chip.  Nintendo has yet to make a sequel or re-release this game (speculation is because of legal issues with the Super FX Chip), but this was a very fun game.  I only played the Stunt Mode this time, and it was still fun, will play some races another time.

The Rocketeer (Adventure) – When I first got a SNES game as a kid this was a game I got with it (alongside Super Mario World), I believe it was part of a Price Club Bundle.  This was always very difficult and frustrating, the first stage is a flying stage and I think I only made it past there a couple of times, I’m not sure if I ever made it pass the next stage in the hanger.  Revisiting this as an adult was pretty fun because I was able to actually make it much further than I ever had before.  Unfortunately/fortunately I discovered that I didn’t miss out on anything as a kid.  I’m skeptical to ever play this again.

Super Mario RPG (RPG) – I love this game, I think everyone does.  When I was a kid I rented this game and played it all weekend and beat it, it was awesome!  I’ve revisited this a couple of times in the past 15 years with my wife, but we always get side tracked before we can reach the end.  Playing this time we didn’t get very far, but we at least got past the beginning, got Mallow in our party and beat the Purple Croc thief Croco.  We hope to pick this back up again and actually make it through the end.  *This was actually played/streamed  on the Wii U instead of the SNES

Super Adventure Island II (Adventure Platformer) – I was pleasantly surprised by this game.  I am a fan of Adventure Island as it is, but this one was different as it had RPG elements to it, allowing the player to equip different items and talk to people in cities.  Instead of just playing through a series of stages, you had to navigate and overworld map.  The design is similar to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link but the action is more traditional Adventure Island type.   I definitely plan on coming back to this
