Games from the Backlog – Spring Cleaning
Spring is here and it’s time to do some cleaning in my backlog of games, particularly on the Switch. There’s a group of new games soon to release and I still haven’t got around to playing a sizable amount of games that I bought the past year. For the entire Spring season I’m going to try and work my way through a few games I’ve been meaning to play, no more putting them off! Below is what I intend to play, I will be streaming them on the Twitch channel.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap – I’ve never played this series, and I heard great things about it. The art style looks cool and I love old-school games, this one apparently stays true to it’s mechanics and feels like a real retro title. I bought it on sale on the eShop last year and never launched it.
Update: I completed Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, it definitely had old school mechanics and gameplay, but it had a beautiful art style that really made the game much more pleasant to play than it’s original aesthetics. It took a while to get an understanding of the game world/rules, but once things fell into place I found myself really enjoying the challenge and discoveries within the game.
Bayonetta – I beat this before when it originally came out on the 360, but I’ve been wanting to go back and play it again ever since I finished Bayonetta 2 on Wii U. Now that it’s on the Switch, I get another opportunity to do so.
Update: I beat Bayonetta on Normal Difficulty and got a LOT of “Stone” Awards, so I’m not very good at it! The game got off to a bit of a slow start, and was even boring or bland at times, but the second half really picked up with a lot more variety in enviornments, gameplay and battle. I think Bayonetta 2 is the better game, as it has that intensity from start to finish, but the original is still a very good game that deserves a playthrough from fans of action/beat-em-up games and especially Bayonetta 2 fans.
Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack – I’m a huge Mega Man/Mega Man X fan and I have played a little bit of the first Striker Azure Gunvolt on the 3DS. From the little that I played I definitely recognized this is the successor to the Mega Man X series. This definitely a game I want to get around to playing thoroughly .
Nights of Azure 2 – I played some of the original on PS4 and thought it was an under appreciated title, I’ve been curious to see how the sequel is. I’m not expecting too much from it, but it is a game I really want to check out.
The Longest Five Minutes – I don’t really know what to expect from this, visually it reminds me of Earthbound, but I know that doesn’t mean it plays like it. I’ve heard very little about this game before and after it’s release, from what I understand you start at the end of the story/game and jump around through flash backs. It seems like a game you have to play to understand, so I better get on it.
Xenoblade 2 – I have the collector’s edition of this, and I love the Xenoblade series! The only reason I’ve been putting this one off for so long is because I’m expecting to sink 100 hours or so into it, I could probably end up spending more time on this than the other games combined! I will absolutely get around to this at some point, hopefully soon!
