Upcoming 2013 Releases – Part One

This is the time of year when the release schedule gets a little crowded. Earlier this week Pikmin 3 kicked off the video game season, and here are the upcoming games for August & September that I have my eye on. I’m also posting the best release day deals I can find for each one of these games. If you find a better deal please comment below or contact me on Twitter @TheGamerPad *I did not include upcoming digital releases on this list.

marioluigibanner8/11 – Mario & Luigi Dream Team
(3DS) – Best Deal: Fry’s $29.99 Anyone who’s been reading this site or my twitter account should know by now that I’m a pretty big Nintendo fan. So it should be no surprise Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is on my list of must-haves. I beat the first two Mario & Luigi games but have not played Bowser’s Inside Story yet. I’m unsure if I’m going to try and play through Bowser’s Inside Story before I start Dream Team, but I will be picking up this game when it’s released.bar2

saintsrowbanner8/20 – Saints Row IV (360) – Best Deal: Best Buy Pre Order Receive $10 Reward Certificate – I never got into the first Saints Row game, the second one I played one day while snowed inside of the house…I must’ve spent 10 hours on it in that one day alone. When the Third came out, and I gave it a shot, I came away surprised as it was one of my favorite games of 2011. I played through the entire game and got all of the achievements, it was some of the most fun I’ve had on my 360 and the humor was possibly the best I’ve ever seen in a video game. The Third sold me on Saints Row IV, and I’m probably looking forward to this just as much, if not more than GTA V.bar2

splinterbanner8/20 – Splinter Cell: Black List (Wii U) – Best Deal: None So Far – I just recently remembered that Splinter Cell: Black List was coming out this August. I doubt I will purchase this when it comes out, I’m hoping to be able to rent it off GameFly shortly after it releases, and hopefully for the Wii U. I was only planning on playing the single player, so Wii U seems better fit for me. If there is a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale on games later this year (there usually is every holiday) this will possibly be the game I choose as my free game. Not too excited about this, just curious how it is.bar2

luigibanner8/25 New Super Luigi U (Wii U) – Best Deal: None So Far (Retail) – I loved New Super Mario Bros U, I still want to go back to 100% complete it. I feel as New Super Marios Bros. U is the best side-scrolling Mario game since Super Mario World. So it should be obvious that I’m excited to play through all of the new level and content in New Super Luigi U. I waited for the physical retail copy instead of getting the digital download in June. Being a collector, I want the physical copy of a Nintendo release, the fact is comes in a special green case makes it impossible to resist.bar2

killerisdeadbanner8/27 – Killer is Dead (PS3/360) – Best Deal: None So Far – I was hoping to wait for this one to drop in price before picking it up. After discovering their is a Limited Edition version with a soundtrack and art book, I couldn’t afford to miss out. Now I’m going to pick this game up on day one of it’s release, which probably means I’ll pay full price. I’m a huge Suda 51 and would like to eventually own all of his North American releases. I decided to get Killer Is Dead on PS3 because it just seems more fitting for that console than the 360. I’m debating if I’m going to end up swapping my 360 versions of Shadows of The Damned & Lollipop Chainsaw for PS3 copies too.bar2

maddenbanner8/27 – Madden 25 (360) – Best Deal: Amazon $99.99 + Sunday Ticket – Another year, another Madden. I dump a ton of hours into Madden every year, probably more than any other game each year (except maybe Borderlands 2 last year). This year I bought the special edition from Amazon that costs $99 and comes with the NFL Sunday Ticket…if it wasn’t for the Sunday Ticket package, I’d hunt down a $40 – $50 copy of the regular somewhere. I’ll probably end up selling this in a couple of months if I decide to upgrade to Playstation 4’s version.bar2

raymanbanner9/3 – Rayman Legends (Wii U) – Best Deal: None So Far – Like most Wii U owners, I was dying for Rayman Legends to come out last February, but as we all know now it didn’t happen. With this dropping in September I really doubt I can justify a purchase of it at $60 considering all the time and money I’m going to be spending on other games. Within a month of Rayman’s release the Wii U gets Pikmin 3, New Super Luigi U and Wonderful 101, plus PS3/360 titles like GTA V, Saints Row IV & Killer is Dead eliminate the chances of me getting Rayman Legends at release. I’ll try to rent it, otherwise I’ll be waiting for a Holiday Sale.bar2

wonderfulbanner9/15 – The Wonderful 101 (Wii U) – Best Deal: None So Far – I have high expectations for Wonderful 101, probably an unfair amount. But there is something about this game that I sense is gonna be amazing. Ever since it’s debut, Wonderful 101 has been right there with Pikmin 3 as my most anticipated Wii U games. I can’t wait to see what this new franchise by Platinum Games has in store. From what we’ve seen so far it looks like the delays have added more polish and quality to a title that will show off the unique features of the Wii U. This game can’t come soon enough.bar2

gtabanner9/17 – Grand Theft Auto V (360) – Best Deal: Best Buy Pre Order Receive $10 Reward Certificate – This is supposed to be the game that sends this generation off on a high note. GTA’s always live up to the hype so I can’t wait to see what ground is broken with GTA V. This is a must-have day one purchase, I’m sure this game will occupy most of my September gaming time, and well into October. My only fear is that with the release of Saints Row IV being just a month before, I might quickly feel “sandbox” game overload and get bored faster than I expect.
